The 40th Northern California Japanese Christian Church Fellowship (NCJCCF) will be held at Zephyr Point, Lake Tahoe, July 21-26. It is a scenic and peaceful lakeside location ideal for relaxation and spiritual renewal. Last year, we had 45 attendees with Sacramento Japanese UMC(15) and Wesley UMC(10) leading the pack along with others from the Central Valley, San Francisco, and Berkeley. Some came as far as from Japanese Church of Christ(4) in Salt Lake City, Utah.
This year’s guest speaker will be Rev. Mike Friedrich. He will speak about “Ordinary People Finding Themselves with Extraordinary Powers”.
Rev. Mike Friedrich is a United Methodist minister serving the Bay District more or less as a free-lance volunteer Deacon and has been a participant at this Retreat for the past several years. Mike was a member of Berkeley Methodist United Church prior to his 2016 ordination; BMUC is a historically Japanese-American congregation. He currently also serves at BMUC as pastor of a men’s group and a member of the choir.
Prior to ministry, Mike spent 35 years in the comic book industry as a writer, agent for artists, small press publisher, marketing executive, and fan convention organizer, among other roles. He retired in 2011 to attend seminary. Mike has a Bachelor of Arts from Santa Clara University and a Master of Theological Studies from Pacific School of Religion.
Registration deadline is March 22, 2019. If you are interested, please contact Jim Mar through the church office.
A Retreat Photobook is on display in the Fellowship Hall.
