ASTRONOMYScheduled: Monday Evening (7/28), 8:45-10:00pm Leader: John Firebaugh John will show you how to make your own sextant, in order to find your position/latitude using the North Star. You will learn the basic skills on finding your position on earth using the stars. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- JAPANESE BRUSH PAINTING Two Sessions: Monday (7/28), 1:30-3:00pm; Tuesday (7/29), 1:30-3:00pm Leader: Florence Hongo Because of the limitation of available equipment, Florence can only accommodate the first five people who sign up for this workshop. You will learn about the background, making of ink, and much practice with various models of brush painting. A 16" round needle, size 8 - either metal or bamboo, which ever you prefer. 2. One set double point needle, size 8 (four needles in a package). 3. Medium weight yarn (if over 300 yards, can make 3 hats). 4. Counter (optional). 5. Measure Tape (optional). 6. Marker (need for decrease to keep track of location of decreases). For those wanting instructions on other projects, bring all your materials and Alice will help you. Austin created some of his own intricate designs and will bring them for display. Origami paper will be provided. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- LEARN TO WALTZ Scheduled: Tuesday Evening (7/29), 9:00 – 11:00pm Leader: Hiroko Iida To the dancers delight, for starters, Hiroko will show you how to the simple waltz. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- MOSAIC ART WORKSHOP Tentatively Scheduled: Mon. (7/28), 3:00-4:30pm Leader: Jan Aramaki Workshop offered pending Jan attending Retreat. You will learn how to make art creations from pieces of ceramic. Materials will be provided. |
