2009 Young Adult Mission Trip to Pharr, Texas

"...be strong and do not give up..."

Day 4, July 14

Roof is half done!

We arrived at 6:30am this morning to take advantage of the cooler early mornings.  On the roof again, we continued shingling the front side of the roof while waiting for more supplies to arrive.  Once those arrived we were able to start nailing down felt and starting a few rows of shingles on the back side.  We hit a couple of problems and had to backtrack a few times, but everyone worked hard to make up for the lost time.  Because we had gotten there and started working so early, we were able to quit about an hour earlier than yesterday.  We made sandwiches for lunch and ate under the tree in the front yard and rested before heading back to San Juan UMC to shower and rest.

Eating at Ruby's BBQ

In the evening we piled into the cars and went to Rudy’s BBQ for supper.  Everyone enjoyed the food and fellowship there before heading back to the dorms to play more card games and prepare for VBS tomorrow.  Lisa and Jennifer made signs to teach the kids a few words and phrases in Japanese, and Jennifer and Barbie made Spam Musubi.  We are all looking forward to “sleeping in late” since we don’t have to leave until 8:30am tomorrow morning!

"But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your hard work shall be rewarded."
(2 Chronicles, Chapter 15:7)
