Sunday School
Our Mission Statement

The call of our Sunday School is to provide a safe, nurturing and loving environment as children begin their journey of faith and relationship to the church.  Wesley is a place where children can grow in faith through nurturing their spirit; come to know God through exploring the Word; and experience the love and care of Christ through opportunities of service and discipleship.

Classes begin the Sunday following Labor Day with Rally Day (September 13) and continues through the end of May.  All classes are held during the 9am Worship Service.  During the summer months a special program is conducted!

This year our Sunday School theme is "Growing God's Garden".  Each year we hope to plant seeds of faith that sprout and bloom in its own season, within each of our children.  Gardening requires a passion for tending to its care and our Sunday School staff is ready to share in this responsibility.

Here is the 2009-2010 Sunday School Schedule:
  • 1st Sundays - begin in Worship for Communion and Children's message
  • 2nd Sundays - begin with music in Fellowship Hall
  • 3rd Sundays - begin in Worship for Children's message
  • 4th Sundays - begin with music in Fellowship Hall
  • 5th Sundays - begin in Class Time for the full hour
Infants through 18 months may be taken directly to the Nursery at the start of the 9am or 11am Service.

Girl Scout Troop 1150

Wesley United Methodist Church supports a unique and lively Girl Scout Troop 1150.  We are a multi-level troop which supports girls from ages 5 to 17 - Daisies, Brownies, Juniors, Cadettes and Senior Girl Scouts.

The troop is open to all girls. Some of the goals they work on are both personal and far-reaching. This is achieved by exposing the girls to many learning experiences, leadership opportunities and team-working skills. They become better citizens and scouting gives the girls the experience of improving the quality of life for others without regard for personal reward. Girls develop a commitment to community service that lasts a lifetime.

The girls participate in a program that includes activities in science, math, technology, the out-of-doors, arts and well-being.

Daisy - Kindergarten
Brownie - Grades 1st through 3rd
Junior - Grades 4th through 6th
Cadette - Grades 7th through 9th
Senior - 10th through 12th

We'd love to have you join us! Please contact us through the Church Office at (408) 295-0367

Alpha Omega - College Age Group
Rev. Keith Inouye
Alpha Omega logo
In biblical reference to Jesus the Christ as the "alpha and the omega; beginning and end" we affirm our desire to grow in our Christian faith and service.  Our desire is to keep college age young adults connected to the local churches by providing spiritual enrichment programming and fellowship both locally and cooperatively that is relevant to where college age young adults find themselves.  The usage of the Greek letters "A" and "O" was used not only as a reference to our spiritual heritage but a way to provide a connection to college life through the establishment of a kind of Greek co-ed organizational fellowship.

The annual Alpha Omega Retreat will be held October 2-4 at Camp Arroyo Grande.

Adult Bible Studies
  • Adult Bible Study Saturday mornings from 7:30-8:45AM
  • Facilitators:  Kats Hikido, Leighton Horio and Roy Takeuchi
This Bible Study meets each Saturday and welcomes adults of all ages. Each quarter a unit of study is completed and a new one begins; one can join in at anytime during the year. Four to five Bible study leaders rotate leading the lessons. Each lesson is focused on the Bible, and is usually related to our daily lives and how we may become closer to God. Very lively discussions are held in both large and small groups. Participation in this Bible Study enables one to gain a better relationship and understanding of one's relationship with God as well as other members in the group.

Coffee is served; the Bible Study concludes about 8:45 AM. If you are a "morning person" who enjoys an informal early morning fellowship, you will enjoy this very warm and friendly group. It will be worth your time to get up and meet with this group.

  • Adult Bible Study Sunday mornings from 10:30AM-11:30AM
  • Facilitator: Jim Tengan

Jim Tengan leads the adult Bible study held on Sundays at 10:30 AM (after worship service). Jim began this Bible study in the early 1980's and he continues to lead the class diligently every week (except when there is a conflict with a greater church wide program).

It is an informal Bible study open to anybody who is interested in learning about Jesus and incorporating His teachings into his/her daily life. The class chooses (by democratic voting) books or Bible study materials that are interesting to the class. Therefore, the study materials chosen by the class vary offering a wide variety of styles, approaches and topics relating to the Bible and the life in the Jesus' Church.

"If God Is Your Co-Pilot, Swap Seats!"

"I saw a bumper sticker that read “If God is Your Co-Pilot, Swap Seats!”  That tongue-in-cheek message is simply reminding us that it is so important to get our priorities right.  It is so crucial to know how (with the help of God) to put first things first, to choose God as the number one priority in our lives, to love God because God first loves us."

This is the title and introduction to Dr. James W. Moore’s recent book.  Join the Sunday 10:30 Adult Bible Study Class as we review his material.  Classes are held in the Fireside Room.
  • Sisters Bible Study Friday mornings from 9:30AM
  • Facilitator: Jody  Kamachi
There are 5 sessions at 6 weeks each session.  We are on session 2 and it will end on Aug 13th.  People can come to any session. It is light reading, more discussion than anything. Just a group of women studying and laughing together.  The next session will begin sometime in September.
